We are pleased to announce the release of Ardour 9.7. This bugfix release comes with several noteworthy enhancements: futher MIDI editing improvements, better listing of supported control surfaces, and a brand-new vertical scrollbar in the editor.
Once again, we had to skip a release number (9.6) due to various issues only noticed at the last moment.
So nice to see the improvements, especially to have the midi tools now in the editor list for inline midi editing is crazy, didn’t see that one coming.
Like Inspector Lieutenant Columbo would like to say, …“just one more thing…” :
I did investigate the Quirks in the preferences hoping to see an addition solving this issue :
But maybe next time ?
Thank you Ardour team for this update !
I’m an KDE X11 user.
This window jumping behaviour is also still present in the demo 9.7 version, just did try it out.
Another thing I did notice ;
is that although my contour design shuttle pro2 is working, it’s not visible anymore at preferences > control surfaces in the 9.7 version ( while listed in the 9.5 version ).
Maybe I will report it on Mantis.
First I did a self compiled build 9.7.2, after I downloaded the demo 9.7.0.
On both versions the ShuttlePro2 is functioning in Ardour but isn’t listed on my system at ardours prefs > control surfaces.
Thanks for your great work! Special thanks for continuously improving the MIDI workflow, which, as an avid MIDI user, I greatly appreciate.
I’m testing the chase fixes now, and the first results are very promising. Most Channel Voice Messages seem to be chased correctly now, with the exception of Program Change. Is this not implemented, or am I missing something?
I also have a minor complaint regarding the size of the right panel. In 9.7 it takes a lot more of horizontal space.
9.5:
9.7:
It would be nice to have a possibility to shrink it more to gain some precious horizontal screen space.
Ah, you won’t find Ardour 9.7 in Debian13+KDE software centre (Discover), and not even in thru Synaptic. Last month i checked out that distro i think it still was on Ardour 8 or even 7. They realy are after approved apps’s stability .
Basicaly, i always download the new version from Ardour’s site.
Nice!!! git repo as compiled just now says: Ardour 9.7.2 “Bell Studies for the Clock of the Long Now” (rev 9.7-2-ga31b1cef38) Intel 64-bit
We’re trying to squash a bug in NAM plugins NeuralAmpModeler.lv2 and Ratatouille, and i noticed this version of Ardour no longer crashes on these bugs. Now Ratatouille shows absolutely no indication anything is wrong, and NeuralAmpModeler.lv2 shows the exact same symptoms as Carla: DSP load jumps to 100% and jackd goes crazy with xruns until the plugin is unloaded, at which point the host (Ardour, Carla) resumes working normally.
…while Renoise doesn’t (yet) support LV2, and Reaper freezes my entire x11 session with nothing suspicious in the logs (:
I guess it would be helpful to know: what fixes/guards were added to LV2 to prevent this crash, and potentially others?
Some preferences seem to be reset to default when a new version is installed/run. This includes some of the color/transparency settings, (maybe) among others.
Good to know. Using 64 sample buffers / 3 periods here for live playing, and occasionally up to 256/512 sample length for editing/mixing if needed, or 1024/3 for really really huge projects (that’s rare tho) … and 128/3 on an older interface that i sometimes use live, has shown reliability problems at 64/3 but it’s really compact so i keep it with my laptop. Saved my ass a couple of times.
Yes, but only to a certain extent. My point is that in 9.5, it could be shrunk further. See the screenshots: in both cases, I’ve reduced it as much as possible, yet in 9.7 it takes up significantly more space.
