Start recording MIDI track on external input

Hi everyone

I’m sure I had this working before but for ther life of me can’t do it now!

Running Hydrogen which is outputting MIDI into Ardour. This is received ok and plays the MIDI notes as expected. What I am trying to do is record the incoming MIDI but have the recording start when Hydrogen starts. If I start recording in Ardour then start Hydrogen it records fine but I just can’t get it to automatically start recording!

Ardour is Jack master, Hydrogen has Jack transport on.

Not a major issue as I can trim and move the recorded track as required.

I apologise if this is obvious, I’m probably staring at the solution!

The following thread provides a good guideline:

Connect and synchronize Hydrogen and Ardour

Setup Setup and start JACK (either with qjackctl or KXStudio’s Cadence, or in Ardour’s Setup Dialog). Open both Hydrogen and Ardour. In Ardour’s Preferences (Menu > Window > Preferences, or Menu > Edit > Preferences), select Sync in the left colulm. Set “External Timecode Source” to “JACK” (this is the default if and only if you have always only used Ardour with JACK). – This step only needs to be done once.
