Are there any plans to add the top bar from Mixbus to Ardour, I just think it looks a lot cleaner and a lot more modern.
The idea was to clean up the application-bar fewer buttons (like most other DAWs) not overload users. MIxbus failed with that attempt, and it’s now even less clear what the individual buttons do. So we decided against that.
By default A9 will have a clean application bar at the top:

By default, upon release, you’re not going to show the Lua script buttons?
Hmm… I guess for new users all those buttons might be confusing, sure…
Only two of them. Those currently are pre assigned with “mixer screnshot” and “list used plugins”.

Yeah it puzzles me how Mixbus now relies on you using Transport hotkeys to do even basic locate stuff, once you adjust to this it’s not the end of the world but it’s one of things you wonder how it got past the first focus group discussion…

That top bar looks weird with all the empty grey space. Can’t you put the stuff on the second line onto the top line and turn the meters horizontal so it’s a single narrow bar?

I agree the default looks weird, but once you toggle back everything you actually need in preferences (except “Auto Return” that disappeared unfortunately…) it looks almost ok :).
Definitely need auto return

Yes please bring back Auto return.
I use the keyboard for everything I can remember the shortcut for, but a visual indication of the auto-return status would still be useful.

I noticed this being mentioned a lot in various posts so I decided to create an actual specific post about this topic.
