I mentioned it by now a number of times … it would be great to have
Whilst creating the mug-shot I noticed immediately potential design/implementation issues.
Scaling is one of them
…something like that would be great
cheers

Just throwing out an idea which occurred just now:
There are formats for subtitle files which go along with videos. Perhaps some of the infrastructure in place with xjadeo for playing videos synchronized to Ardour could be reused to play a blank video with subtitle file for lyrics rather than making them take up main screen space.
Yup. Like .xml file.
It could store text/lyrics alongside timecode info for synchronization with Ardour’s timeline/sound.
That sounds interesting. I never loaded a video into Ardour, so my question What is involved to use subtitles?
thanks much appreciated
Subtitles are usually very difficult. Not on the surface, but there are at least a dozen subtitle formats in the wild. The most common for broadcast are eia 607/608, then there is .srt, .ass and .scc. While .srt are probably the easiest to use and works with x264 (usually .mp4) files quite well, and they can be either embedded or used as a sidecar (subtitle.srt), it also depends on the video format used. .srt files cannot be used with .mov files or .mxf files (usually broadcast) without converting to .scc first. Either way, subtitles are not easy by far and would take a huge amount of dev time.
FWIW, .srt files are text, .scc files are binary.
Hmmm … pity … any other ideas ? …what about using eg. Musescore ? Creating chord structure/melody writing the lyrics to the score and import it as a movie snippet. That would be rather static
I don’t know ,… I was hoping one of the developers would come up with ideas.
Being a one man band, lyrics are an integral part which I would like to maintain on the same platform as the recording.
anyway , have a great weekend
I’ve not looked into karaoke type subs. Maybe that could be a solution?
what I found on duckduckgo

What are they called ? Where to find them ?
LV2’s for lyrics? No Idea.
Audacity apparently has a way to do it using their Labels.

Here’s an idea…
Create a bunch of regions in a bunch of channels/tracks all over timeline.
Enter lyrics in their titles/names.

I was thinking something along the lines of using ffmpeg to merge subtitles file and a blank “video” file to make a video file of just lyrics which could be imported into Ardour and would play synchronized to the timeline.
I am not familiar with the tools for editing subtitles, but there is a whole community of people who provide community generated subtitles for Japanese broadcast anime. A community like that would probably be the most likely place to find user friendly editing tools.
Depending on what the actual goal is, you could also just use location markers.
