I never noticed it before but some threads on this forum state that the thread will close 1 month after the last reply. Others state that they’ll close 1 year after the last reply. And yet others don’t mention anything at all about when (or if) they’ll close. Why the difference?
Short version, age of the thread in most cases.
Default is to close 3 months after last post. The goal is that we would like people to be discussing up to date status of the software, things from A2, A3, etc. really don’t apply much in terms of A8. The catch is threads older than Discourse that were ported over from Drupal did not get this set, so as those come to the surface, I generally manually set a timer on them, and because of their age am often setting it to one month instead of 3 months.
Not sure about any that close a year after last post, got an example?

posts in the Blog - Ardour category never close, comments are always allowed.

posts in any other category allow replies for 3 months after the last post.

post that have no category (like this one) allow replied for 1 month aster the last post.
a few select posts that are interesting and warrant longer discussion have been manually changed by moderators to allow comments for a longer period, and similarly some other posts are closed by moderators for various reasons.
