Why is a track silent when it is not muted?

Hello, so a track I made is not producing sound. The routing is fine, it is not muted, and my volume is up. When I make a copy of the track sound does come out, however if I save the session and reopen the copy stops producing sound as well. I have another track but no issues with that one.

I think I did have that too, recently.
Did not pay too much attention 'cause I was able to work around somehow, also don’t remember how.
It might have been a drum midi track. The session possibly had been created with an older version.
(I know that’s not much useful info …)

  • Does the meter move on that track when you play?
  • Is the track’s output connected to the master-bus?
  • Have you perhaps set the track to explicily monitor "In"put (button on the mixer-strip)?
  • Maybe a plugin causing issues?

If none of the above, perhaps a screenshot of the editor and mixer showing that specific track can help, or sharing the .ardour session file would allow to investigate.

the output is connected and yes it does move when I hit play but not the green side of the uv. no plugin is causing it any it is not set to monitor input

also I should have mentioned that it stopped working after a crashed. if I can’t solve this issue and how to prevent it I will just recreate the track without duplicating the original track.

So this is a MIDI track? We really need a lot more information to track this down.

what kind of information?

Could it be you have a fluidsynth plugin in the track, but it did not load a soundfont correctly?
Had that one in the past as well. Midi is received, the yellow midi meter blinks, but without a soundfont, the output stays silent… It did happen when I loaded a session.
