Why dual mono files when recording in stereo?

Hi, does anyone know what was the particular reason behind the choice made to record stereo sources as dual mono files instead of a proper stereo file?

I would assume that it saved the overhead of interleaving when writing and deinterleaving when reading files. Mono files can be directly mmaped.

Also when processing data, it is always a planar format, never interleaved data.

I mean in the audio folder i have dual mono files, is there any option im missing to make ardour save them as stereo?

You can export the session:

Ardour Menu > Session > Export > Export to audio file… and pick any number of channels.

Internally however Ardour always unconditionally uses single channel files.

I see…

Well thank you, and btw your plugins are amazing
