Which plugin format to prefer when LV2 and VST available

Quite a few plugins have multiple plugin versions in their package, like LV2, VST and VST3.
Which one should be used preferrably with Ardour, or is this not easy to tell?
I tend to prefer LV2, although I do not know why :slight_smile:
