Full disclosure this was mixed with Mixbus 11, delete me if I’m disqualified…
This is a live off the floor recording of one of the bands I play in; “The Elder Brothers” performing our arrangement of “When I Go Away” by Levon Helm. The focus was capturing the Live Vibe so the mix hasn’t been manipulated too much, some EQ on the Kick, compression on various channels and a touch of delay on the vocals is about it.
Recorded to a Zoom LiveTrak L-20 and my first mix in Mixbus 11…
No overdubs it’s all the real deal, Billy the bass player sings all the high stuff and has a very strong falsetto. As far as the Hammond yes, I would agree but it doesn’t leave the Studio unfortunately, we had to put it up there with a tractor loader…lol
Thanks! And to all it means a lot for you to have taken a moment to watch and comment…
It’s certainly not a perfect performance but the emergence of AI and the phenomena of Youtube wunderkinds everywhere has really made me pull back on obsessing about things being perfect. Fixing that last 2% to me felt like it would have lost it’s authenticity in the moment… My bandmates are in their mid-70’s and still playing strong, to me that is the headline, not autotuned perfection…
Yeah, didn’t want to point the age factor out but there is a lot more soul in that playing that in a lot of things I hear from peers and new bands and styles in my area. And I agree that leaving the imperfections is the best seal to guarantee that the rest is truly yours. Definitely a show worth seeing live, heh.
I get your point, I suppose but it is a great performance and your mixing work is superb (it really suits the performance and compliments the humanity) and that cover is a better listen than any AI-assisted grid-quantised Splice-arrangement type thing you find posted on popular social media sites these days… And I’m not even keen on this genre…!
Voila, amen. Some humans making music together in realtime, there’s nothing better. You can tell that yous are seasoned and experienced players too Yous have serious rhythm. So again, nice one Glen! Excellent cover, great performance.
