What's the latest version of Ardour that works on Intel Macs running OSX v12 (Monterey)?

Have an old (late 2014) Intel Mac Mini which I’ve wiped and am setting up to give to a friend to use for basic recording and simple music production.

However the latest OS I can install on it is Monterey (v10.12) and Ardour reportedly doesn’t work on this, although I haven’t actually tried installing it.

So, I was wondering what’s the most recent version of Ardour I’d be able to run on this, and assuming there’s still a pre-built version of that available for download somewhere, could anyone provide a link? Thanks.

Either Ardour 8.6 or 8.8 is the last version that will run on macOS 10.12 (Sierra)

Ardour moved on to use modern C++17 standard, which requires macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later. This happened gradually during the 8.6 .. 8.9 release cycle.

I’ll see if I can find an old dmg…

Version 10.12 is macOS Sierra, not Monterey (which is version 12).

According to everymac, late-2014 Mac Mini’s can run Monterey (v12), which means you’re all good!

With Monterey (again, v12) you can indeed run all the latest versions of Ardour (v8.12, or pre-release of v9)! :+1:

I currently run Ardour v8.12/v9 on my even older Mojave OS (macOS 10.14), and it all works great!

Indeed. @ciw1973 Please try the 8.12 demo version…

If it that doesn’t run let me know and I’ll send you Ardour 8.6 and 8.8 installers; or maybe even 7.5 (since various 8.x releases have some serious bugs).

Many thanks for the replies.

I’d already upgraded the Mac to Monterey (hence the info in the post title) which is the latest supported version, but clearly had a real brain-fart moment with the version number I put in the actual body of the post.

Will try installing the latest release tomorrow evening, and in the unlikely event I have issues, will report back.
