What's best practice for mixing a long live track down to single songs?

Hi,

I want to mix a live recorded 16 track gig .
I know what I want, but I’m not an expert in mixing in any way.
So I have to learn it by doing AND by asking in the forum.

I tried several worflows, but none of them was kind of easy.

So, to get help in the forum I have to specify the single steps an hope you tell me the best was to do it.

I import the tracks into a project. This is easy …

Now I have for example 15 single songs from a 1 hour gig.

Starting with the first song I’d like to let the remaining 14 songs be unvisible, let’s say this song is my workspace until mixing and exporting is finished.

To find out the boundaries of the next song I’d like to make the whole tracks to be visible again or (which I’d prefer) I’d like to see everything but the first song. Doesn’t matter how (hope you tell me) but the task is to "separate the 2nd song mix … Then separate the 3rd and so on until all songs of the whole track are mixed.

I know his will have to to with regions edit modes and so an … I seem to be to unable to get things together cause “nomenclature” of Ardour isn’t easy to understand because I’m a beginner and because it’s not in my mothers language.

Hope someone can give me the essentials on how to make this process easy in Ardour.
Again, it’s my fault, Ardour is great, but not always easy to understand, even after having read all documentations I could find.

I have a friend, who has job-related to to with mixing music (and videos). She tried out Ardour with me, she knew what has to be done, but she’s a user of Cubase, where everything works different. We got it together by searching the internet for “how does this work in Ardour”. This was a great help and progress for me, cause now I know what I want, but don’t now how ::slight_smile:
(By the way, when something was clear, she worked in such a quick manner that I could not memorize it )

Best regards
Harry

Look at the markers section of the manual. I would put markers at the beginning of each separate song, and while you are working on a particular song put the start and end marker at the beginning and end of the song you are working on. With the start and end markers moved the transport controls can take you to the beginning easily.
