Volume/pan automation curves

Yes, I get that having curves as opposed to straight lines for automation is less useful than it appears for plugin parameters. Plugins will (or might) not behave as you might think, since it all depends on the internal parameter resolution, for instance.

That said, having curves instead of lines make a lot of sense for volume and pan. I mean, 64 bit resolution for both (I’m assuming). Yes, I know that we’re not that sensitive. And no, fades can be a bit cumbersome, compared to adding two points on an automation curve and then modulating the curvature.

Isn’t this essentially doable with the click and drag automation function they added a while back? You can just draw any curve exactly the way you want.

I agree that fades don’t always work for volume, especially the slow/fast options

Yes, but it’s not exactly elegant. You need to manually draw a curve, essentially. A mouse is not a very good drawing tool.

Note that the Y-axis is already exponential, so a straight line is not linear. For parameters that don’t cross zero the scaling can be set to logarithmic (context menu)…

As for pan curves see DAW v DAW - Part 6: Pan Laws and Pan Curves

Ok for planning, but I still believe that instead of setting volume scaling per track, having more granular control (automation by automation) would be more useful.
