Using .sf2 Soundfonts with Ardour?

Can anyone help me set up Ardour to use .sf2 soundfonts? I’ve just done a clean install on Ubuntu 14.04.

Ardour itself does not use SF2 or any other soundfonts. You need to load an instrument plugin that does that for you. At this time, that means either LinuxSampler or FluidSynth. LS is problematic to find and use as a plugin, though it is possible. Many people run it as a standalone JACK client, connected to Ardour. Fluidsynth has a variety of frontends, you would need a plugin version such as CALF Fluidsynth.
