I’m using Ardour 8.6 and I would like to create an audio track that gets its sound from the track that is powering AFluid triggering a SF2 sound.
I was able to do it (bounce a track and fix the tempo) but I think there must be a better way.
I’ve never been able to get a midi track that reliably records and plays back in tempo, also not sure why but I have good sound banks I’ve downloaded and would like to get my phrasing into the tunes I’m creating with out having to go back and manipulate the midi to make it work.
Well first things first, I would definitely recommend upgrading.
Not sure why you would fix the tempo ‘after’ bouncing the track? Seems like that should happen before bouncing to me?
… I am just confused here. How would you NOT do this without manipulating MIDI on a software instrument that is driven by MIDI? Or do you mean you are trying to play it like a live instrument and just record the audio output of it?
Ahh ok, that isn’t what I would call ‘Bouncing’ for the record. That being said, you definitely shouldn’t be having issues, but the first thing I would check is that you are using a MIDI Bus for the instrument, not a track. If you want you could route MIDI to a Bus and a Track, but the Bus is more about live processing etc.
Route the audio output of the MIDI bus (Post software instrument plugin obviously) to the track you want to record on. Routing the MIDI output or having a different MIDI track with the same input, would allow you to capture the MIDI information should you please.
In as far as being in tempo… that should be a matter of playing in tempo. It seems unlikely that the tempo would change in that chain from playing of the MIDI, but that there is some unaccounted for latency in the MIDI instrument could be possible to be off time, which in turn might throw off your tempo while playing. Also when playing and monitoring a MIDI instrument live, is one of the few times you are going to want to make sure you have your overall latency low (Generally <10mS total latency ideally, lower if your hardware is stable at it).
