Upgrading to 2.8.5

I’ve only recently started building Ardour from source, and now I have a newbie question. Since 2.8.5 has come out, do I upgrade by simply running scons again with the new version, or will I need to uninstall 2.8.4 first?

You SHOULD uninstall first.

That being said, you can try out 2.8.5 before installing by building and utilizing the ardev script in the gtk2_ardour folder afterwards. This is highly recommended for any upgrade.

Hi seablade,

good to read this. I’ve never uninstalled a previous version since the first alpha of 2.0. What could be the downside of this?

It just ensures that you don’t mix libs if something goes wrong that can cause ‘wierdness’
