does anybody know if this works?
my idea is, the use of two synchronized Yamaha 03D as control surface …
and which audio interface would you recommend for this setup?
using the 03d as a control surface is possible, but complex because yamaha doesn’t appear to provide any default MIDI setup for the device (i have an 01v/96i and my understanding is that i have to program every control to send specific messages). the process is that you’d first set up the yamaha’s, then write a MIDI binding map to work with Ardour’s Generic MIDI surface support (documented in the manual).
the choice of audio interface is irrelevant to any of this.
Many thanks! So I guess it’s easier to use genuine DAW controllers …
What do you think about a Tascam US-2400 as control surface, does it work w/ ardour?
We have excellent support for devices using Mackie Control protocol, which the US-2400 appears to do. However, they confusingly have 2+ different Mackie control modes and a “native mode” in addition. Without access to a US-2400 I can’t say how well it will work, though I suspect it will work very well. I do most Mackie surface testing development with a Mackie Control Pro and an SSL Nucleus.
