Trim and resize a midi region

Hi all,

I cut a midi region at a certain point and delete the right part.
Then with the mouse I take the right border and lengthen the region to the right: why do the old midi notes reappear? I would expect the part I enlarged to be empty…
Thank you,

Because Ardour, like most DAWs these days, is non-destructive. When you trim a region, you are really only specifying where it starts and finishes for playback (the same is true of audio regions). You are, basically, hiding the bits you don’t want, rather than deleting them.

When you cut a region, it’s pretty much the same as duplicating that region and hiding the bits you don’t want so that the two new regions end and start at the same point.

Cheers,

Keith

Thanks, all clear.
Sometimes it might be convenient to foresee the possibility of a real “cut”.

For what purpose?
