These Websites Are Members of the SEO Spam Hall of Shame

Listed below are URLs for websites that have arranged for people to come to this forum and post links to their sites, even though their sites are totally unrelated to Ardour, audio engineering or anything remotely related to what this site is about. Quite a few of them are probably scams as well. This post will be updated and their names will be added. Google is quite good at indexing ardour.org. You spam our site, we add your URL here.

The saddest part is that I suspect that most of these businesses had no plans to do this. They hired some company who said they would do SEO for them. That company hired some $0.05/hr workers and said “you know what to do”. I don’t really like listing their names here, but companies need to start getting a lot more informed about what “SEO” is, and how Google PageRank works before hiring these scam artists.

thank you so much! I like really much this way to fight spam, this plague is so boring…I’ve done what you suggest me, giving to the ‘SEO Spam all of shame’ highest priority on my sitemap. Google should take a look everyday to that page.

@TheJoe: we already use mollom, which is listed as a similar module. I don’t know if it has ever stopped one of these spammers yet.

Do you know their comments could be automatically censored by akismet?

Hi Paul

First post here. It seems that printing blue is all happy now. A better way to nail these scumbags is to use the tricks that the search engines actively penalise - hidden text, doorway pages, etc., etc.

I use Akismet on my Coppermine gallery, and it’s pretty impressive. My hacks go one step further though - the spamvertised websites are reported to the hosting provider.

@revol: you should create your own page on your own site(s), i think. this page only lists companies that have SEO-spammed ardour.org

Interesting way to fight spam. I searched “Printing Blue” and they came up as the third search result with some harsh words. I hope this helps keep the spam reduced.

Have you thought about adding captchas to the site, i think some of the spam being posted here may be automated, i have read some of the spam though and not only is it spam i have no idea what its trying to promote or sell not even a link as far as i can tell.

anyway a captcha might atleast reduce some of the crap being posted on here.
