I am co-maintaining the ardour-2.0.5+ package in Mandriva (Cooker) and wanted to ship the HTML manual as well, but it has no license. Anyone knows who is the authors of the manual and if they kindly could license it with some suitable open source license?
There is an intention to publish the manual under a license but the decision has yet to be made which one. There should be an announcement when that happens.
By the way, I´m going to write a german translation of the manual with some additions and comments (as I said in my last post here). Would I need a “official OK” from Paul or is it allowed to do (and I would like to publish that on my website).
That depends on what license is chosen. If it was a license such as this one: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/us/ that doesn’t allow derivative works then you would need permission from the copyright holder/s to make a translation of the manual. Any modifications would also be considered a derivative work.
While some other licenses would allow you to do what you want.
