It’s a mix of a song written by my son that we have collaborated on for an EP to be released sometime this summer or early fall. Obviously with the differences of age and taste we have very different preferences in music but the Venn diagram seems to overlap with Roots music which of course is an open umbrella for folk, country, blues and Americana. We both got to play guitar on this one which was fun and the guitars were in 2 different tunings which complemented each other. He put me through some paces getting a final vocal and the challenge was very helpful for me to improve. My friend and bandmate Dave Williams from The Elder Brothers contributed some Hammond organ and Electric Piano.
@willy_dinglefinger Actually I didn’t write this one my son did. We arranged it together and I took some liberties with the vocal melody, the core idea and lyrics are all his.
I’m very fortunate that he took an interest in music and I didn’t push it, the times when he was into it of course I helped and facilitated things but when he would go off into other interests I would just let it be and as time went on he would come back to his drumkit from his other interests and reach a new level of ability and he developed his own love of doing it apart from any parental approval and expectations from me and I think for kids they have to genuinely love it for themselves and work outward from there. I’m no parenting expert and I’m deeply thankful for every moment we play together but I try to not put any expectations on it for both our sakes.
I sincerely hope you and your daughter are able do something similar if it works out, I also have a daughter and she is a music lover too but not so much interested in performing and recording. I’ve been very blessed!
