Templates and default midi drums

Hi

My main use for Ardour (8.12) is improvising and trying to come up parts that later will me assembled into songs.

I always start a new project by creating a session from a template that has everything nicely set up to start working on an idea. As I’m trying to come up with rock music I always need drums also and have three tracks in my template with fluidsynth and my own drums.sf2 soundfont.

I would like to have a basic drum beat ready to use when I create a new session from template but I have not been able to make a template save and restore midi event clips needed. When saving a template it always saves without midi events and if I manually add them to the template path in my home directory the session created with the template comes empty of midi clips.

Is there a way to have template also save midi clips or do I have to manually recreate them every time I create a session from a template ?

If this is not possible now I would very much like to see it in the future since in my use case I need it always and every new session I create.

No, I don’t think this is possible.

What I would do in that situation?

Well, I have my template projects somewhere (to work to improve my template settings) and here I also have midi and audio data to test the templates locally (And I’m glad that this stuff is not exported!)

Now I would just copy the whole template project directory to another file location, open it in Ardour and rename it inside Ardour (Session->rename The Ardour Manual - The Session Menu) to whatever name I want it to have.

Yes, that is one possibility. I also just found out that I can Export my drum midi regions (two 10 minute long regions) as midi and then create a session from template and import those midi regions to the new session. It would be nice to have the possibility to have midi-drums to be part of the template, but now there is at least two workarounds, thanks
