I tried a new plugin, DrumGroovePro. It seems okay and does a bit of what I want, a bit like EZDrummer although it is quite far from that right now. One thing that would be nice is to make it sync with Ardour so that the midi file that you create in DrumGroovePro also appears in Ardour on a midi track, preferably in real time. Is there any way to suggest to the developer to do that?
The established solution (other DAWs, and other drum plugins) is for the plugin to generate a MIDI file, which then can be loaded to the DAW’s timeline. Usually this can happen on the fly via drag/drop. This also works with Ardour with e.g. Addictive Drums 2
(the plugin itself cannot render on the timeline)
That is the mechanism that the project page indicates is supported.
Okay. Thanks for the answer.
Out of curiosity. I understand you probably don’t know exactly how Sonar and EZDrummer work, but about 15-20 years ago I saw Sonar and EZDrummer exchange MIDI in this way. You marked the MIDI track and then EZDrummer picked it up and then we edited it and then the plugin synced the MIDI file somehow. Could it have been done with some kind of drag and drop working in the background? Or is it something that is built into the VST?
