Hi, as I’m working with Ardour I often notice I don’t know much about the basics about mixing. In short I need something like a bunch of “how do I …”/best practice hints/articles/tutorials ? Best would be a complete “From the beginner to a master mixer” … You know what I mean This doesn’t have to be Ardour related (I’m looking for principles , I think/hope I’ll find out how to implement those new ideas in Ardour). I’m sure you all will have a lot of helping ideas for me.
Best regards
I’m currently reading Mixing Secrets For The Small Studio by Mike Senior and can recommend it: Mixing Secrets For The Small Studio (2nd Edition)
It covers the most important things to get started properly with mixing in a DIY/home studio environment. Bought the book after having read a similar topic here on the Ardour forums.
The book I have is
Bobby Owsinski
The Mixing Engineer’s Handbook
I have the Owsinski and Senior books referred to by @autostatic and @peter.zenk . I use them for reference on occasion.
There are many, many YouTube “experts”, but I’ve chosen to only use Joe Gilder’s Home Studio Corner. I find most of his videos short and to the point, typically focused on a single topic.
Need to source that one too! I have his Recording Engineer’s handbook and like it a lot.
In addition worklfow, process and methodology might differ for various styles of music.
Traditional pop and rock music haa completly other priorities than say EDM
+1
I’d also recommend to follow him and try to apply his way of working (get it right at the source, top-down mixing, etc.)
I found an pdf-version online. Very helpful and recommendable !!
Sure, if you are tight on budget …
I prefer paying for useful stuff, as long as I can afford it
