Ardour 7 working fine for weeks. Suddenly and repeatedly crashing when attempting to remove plug-ins or tracks / busses. Re-booted, cleared cache, flushed wastebasket, but behavior continues. Windows 10.
Does this happen with a new session? If no is it a particular session this is happening with? And have you tried opening in Safe Mode (Disable Plugins) to see if you can remove plugins there?

DOH! Should have thought of that. It was happening across all sessions, but starting in safe mode, removing the specific plug-ins and tracks in question and then re-starting seems to have fixed it. Tested it in several different sessions with no problems. Thanks!!
If I may ask, which plugin caused the issue? Maybe it is something that should or can be fixed in Ardour.
It was a third-party plug-in, Reverberate 3, by LiquidSonics. Given that I’ve been running this project in Windows and not the Linux partition, I rather wonder if it’s an instance of Windows not correctly terminating all processes when shutting down Ardour, resulting in multiple instances running simultaneously.
Are there any reports in %localappdata%\Ardour7\CrashLog\ ?
Sadly Reverberate 3 - LiquidSonics requires an iLok.
Ardour closes and unloads plugins when closing a session. To test your assumption, you could try to load a different session without quitting Ardour (Ardour Menu > Session > Recent). Then again there are likely system background processes for the iLok.
You could also try to set Ardour Preferences > Plugins > GUI > Closing a Plugin GUI Window … → destroys the GUI instance, releasing resources. and see if that makes a difference.
I’ll definitely invoke the GUI instance destruction!!
But yes - there are crash reports, all of them centered around an Izotope plug-in instance (Ozone 10), which is weird as the Reverberate 3 is from LiquidSonics. Code below. The others are the same access violation of the same memory address, or else they are subsequent attempts to divide by zero in the Ozone 10 .dll

OK. So the crash happens when Ardour shows the plugin GUI.
Perhaps disable Ardour Preferences > GUI > Automatically open the plugin GUI when adding a new plugin.
Odd though, iZotope plugins are known to work well with Ardour.
