Specify control type for midi learn

I’m trying to control a plug-in parameter with a knob on my AKAI APC Key 25 mk2. I’ve had success making a mid map for this device in the past (Midi Binding Map for AKAI APC Key 25 Mk2). However, now I’m looking to use midi learn for more one-off situations. (And I haven’t loaded the midi map for this session, so there is no conflict).

I’m having a hard time using the knobs to control the parameter values. I control middle click on the parameter I want to control and then move the knob on the device. It successfully links up. However, the knob is effectively useless. If I put smoothing at anything other than 127 nothing happens. If I put smoothing at 127 then the parameter goes from min to max and no where in between.

I’d like to be able to tell midi learn that the control type is an encoder and it should be enc-2. However I can’t figure out how to do that. Any ideas?

They are likely encoders, and for better or for worse (mostly for worse), you can’t use encoders with MIDI Learn.

Thanks for the reply. That’s too bad. I was afraid that was the answer.

Well for what it’s worth, I’ll propose it as a feature request. Perhaps, if the user could ctr+shift+middle click, a dialog could prompt for controller type (enc-l, enc-r, enc-2, etc) before linking the parameter to the controller.

Thanks for your consideration.
