Fantastic project and fine choice of songs! Thank you!
Now we are waiting for some Sonic Youth, Pixies and Mudhoney :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Anyways, what is this “Crossfade” plugin you are using? Ardour can’t find it on my system and I don’t have a clue where to look for it.

Hey! Thanks for trying out Thingamagig. There are lots of songs in my github, including some that AREN’T 90s grunge. Back in Black, Wish you were here, are you gonna go my way, foxy lady…

Anyway, that crossfade comes with swh-lv2 package. Standard with Ubuntu Studio.

Did you figure out how to configure a light fixture yet? I’m dying to see a video from someone else that isn’t me.

Oh ok - I’m using Arch so there’s no preinstall stuff here. I wasn’t even aware of those plugins - thank you.

Did you figure out how to configure a light fixture yet?

Nooo. I’m a complete beginner with guitarix, just trying to make it sound nice and your session files are the real treat for me since you have done so many songs I love. Hopefully I’ll get to the lights someday soon.

First of all, thanks for sharing this. It’s a marvelous impressive hack!

heh. I guess one would need a USB/DMX interface and some lights not to mention space to set it up.

In my case it’ll fail with the latter, but still, could you recommend some [linux compatible] DMX interface and/or lights for people wanting to build their own? Or describe your setup?

On your github page there’s a link to a video explaining the QLC+ setup but that also assumes one has hardware already – or is there a link that I’ve missed?

Oh, how many sets of guitar-strings could one buy instead of getting a DMX fixture and a basic sets of lights?

Thanks for the compliment. I’m hope people use it and have fun with it. (I also selfishly want people to create Thingamagig sessions themselves so I can benefit.)

I updated the readme with information about the DMX adapter and light fixtures I have. (Item #5)

I would get yourself one cheapo par for less than $25, configure it as “wash” and go from there. I’d get a dimmer for drums after that. The christmas lights are cool, amirite?

My setup is pretty extensive:
wash: several small Lixada pars + bigger Betopper par
drums: 4 Donner pinspots + dimmer + christmas lights
effects: 2 Donner pinspots on opposite sides of the disco ball
frontman: none right now. I’m finding that pointing wash lighting at myself keeps the look cohesive and rich. if you want “frontman” lighting, I’d use 2 small pars or pinspots.
fogger: just a manual pushbutton fogger. I’m thinking of adding automatic DMX-based fogging at some point.

Yo. I’ll send you a cheapo Lixada par (to keep) as a thank you for giving it a test drive. It’s worth it to get your feedback. As a mod, do you have access to my private email? If so, send me your address.

Wow. Thanks for the offer! Though realistically it’ll just collect dust here (and shipping to Berlin is likely more expensive that the device itself). Would you mind if I forward this offer to the first person replying here who also pledges to put it to creative use in the context of Thingamagig?

Considering you’re an Ardour dev/mod, I’d have a reasonable expectation that you (a) know what you’re doing and can get it configured, (b) will actually make something and ( c ) will provide valuable technical feedback. I don’t necessarily have that expectation about random folks on here. But I’m happy to evaluate on a case-by-case basis.

The problem is (b). Ardour dev keeps me busy more than full-time. Also I don’t access to an Atelier for artsy stuff anymore…

No guitar karaoke for me. I play at candlelight
