soundfont plugin for MacOS

Hello,

[i also posted the Windows version of this message on the Windows forum]

Tomorrow I’ll be giving a class to some students that have Ardour installed on both Windows and MacOS laptops. I’d like to show them how to use soundfonts and would like to know if anyone on this forum can suggest:

a) an Ardour compatible MacOS plugin that uses soundfonts and where to download it
b) a virtual synth that can be used with the plugin and where to download it.

If any can also answer the same thing for Windows, please say.

Unfortunately I don’t have a Mac or a PC to experiment on before the class - but your suggestions will help.

5.3 contains a-fluidsynth on all platforms which can load soundfont files. Note: NOT SFZ, just SF2.

Oh great, thanks a lot! If anyone has suggestions for virtual keyboards that can be used with fluidsynth on Mac or Windows, please send.

any virtual keyboard for a given platform will work. i don’t personally know of any cross-platform ones.

http://vmpk.sourceforge.net/ is a cross platform virtual midi-keyboard, then again you might just use Ardour’s built-in step-entry or midi-editing functions.
