[SOLVED] WANTED: Female Native English Speaker

I feel a bit awkward myself to sort of misuse the forum as the small ads, and if any of my fellow artists or the administrators consider this inappropriate please feel free to flag the post accordingly.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, as they say, and I’m having a hard time to find someone not much older than 60, with a lively attitude who would like to participate in the current recording. She’d say a couple of sentences and laugh a few times in the epilogue of a song, and it would be totally sufficient if she recorded the required text on a smartphone somewhere quiet and sent an MP3 as an email attachment.

Being a native speaker is not really paramount, any nationality with a fairly decent pronounciation will be most welcome. I’m hoping somebody knows someone who knows someone, that sort of thing.

Anyone in the privileged position of being able to help out please contact me via The Stepford Crash Pilots’ bandcamp page, I’ll explain the details. I’d be most grateful!

Mind you, this is not a business proposal, we’re only in it for the love of it. But the person in question will recieve top billing, how’d you like that?

Thanx for your attention,
Cheers!

CF

Blimey, you got a point there, I didn’t think of that. However, like I
just added in the OP, any nationality with a fairly decent
pronounciation will be most welcome, and I’m hoping somebody knows
someone who knows someone.

I’ll have a look into the programs you propose, thank you very much!

I already tried pitch shift with Audacity, but you can still hear it’s
me, no matter how I try to change my speaking voice in terms of melody,
rythm, and pronounciation. No female touch coming across…!

Hm, this is odd, I was responding to a reply by Glen MacArthur which came in via email, but it is not displayed here, at least not on my screen. What tha… is goin’ on?

Oh, so I haven’t lost my mind? My post disappeared for some reason… I didn’t get a notification about why so I’m a bit baffled, I didn’t think it was controversial so if it was removed I would like to know why.

Speculating about the demographics of the community is inappropriate, and doesn’t help with being welcoming to all. Nobody around here has any idea what the demographics of our forum readers is (and to some degree, not even the writers).

I was to write

Yeah “baffled” is the word. I didn’t miss anything like Skynet taking over, did I?

when your post popped up.

Well I think Glen rather meant it as an - admittedly slightly atavistic - joke. He may not have taken into account that the community certainly includes much more than just Ardour and its forum. Neither did I btw until I was reminded by your post that you don’t have to sign up to read the forum. I get the aspect of “being welcoming to all”.

At the end of the day, I believe there was no offence meant and hopefully none really taken.

No offense was taken.

Good, that’s good! Phew…

I declare myself guilty of having been slightly atavistic, too, in my rather revealing reply to his message. Oh the humanity…! (Herb Morrison)

There have been some salty posts here over the years and don’t recall seeing them pulled so I think some offense was taken, I’m kinda stunned to be ‘that guy’ here of all places. The first word in the post was ‘Sadly’ so in no way was it unwelcoming to anyone in fact it was intended to lament in a lighthearted way that in the Linux musical community we should have more gender diversity and more public forum participation. I’ve been here a very long time and I’m pretty sure the demographic is quite unbalanced in that regard and in no way do I think that’s a good thing, my comments were if anything to be open about that in hopes that through a bit of humor we could show that we are indeed conscious of that and certainly don’t want it that way… Anyway, it’s your forum so… :man_shrugging:

I would have appreciated an email and a chance to remedy the situation myself, I will certainly be careful about posting in the future.

You’re certainly not “that guy” in my eyes and I’m with you when you say

so I’ll take back the attribute “atavistic” as far as you are concerned. Matter of fact, the first word of your reply was “haha”, confirming the quote above. The attribute remains valid for me though, I have clearly misunderstood you.

I may be able to help you here chief :+1: I’ll run the idea by the person in question tonight and let you know (via the Bandcamp page) if she’s onboard.

Man that’s good news. I’ve been working on that darn song for seven weeks now and I’d very much like to release it on the coming weekend. If that timeslot is not too narrow for the Lady in question, I’d be very happy. And even if it all still took a little longer it’d be allright. All’s well that ends well, innit.

Thank you very much Sir, drive safely!

Even if I put myself in danger of triggering an avalanche I must say that the longer I think about it, the more I’m inclined to agree, and I particularly concur with the last part of your post,

There was no swearing, no disrespect, no personal attack, no advocating for fascist, racist, or, despite the superficial look of it, sexist ideas, just an innocent humorous remark. Deleting the post without commenting first puts the incident in dangerous proximity to cancel-unculture. We are still free Highlanders, men and women, aren’t we?

What’s more, it robs the fair sex of the opportunity to say: Oh, is that how we are percieved? Well let’s change that!

They would be very welcome, wouldn’t they?

So much for my twenty cents, let me quote Forrest Gump again:
“And that’s all I have to say about that.”

The point is already illustrated by this thread: I do not want a discussion of this topic (gender disparities in ) taking place on these forums. Maybe I could have privately let Glenn know why I deleted it; I was busy with a variety of things. I’m not faulting Glenn for the comment I deleted, there’s been no gross error, no horrible behavior, nothing to be castigated about. I just don’t want and didn’t want a “hook” for that sort of discussion sitting around here.

Well.I managed to twist the subject’s arm into having a crack at this so I’ll message you via Bandcamp and you can send me the text and what you’re after and any other details outwith a public forum and we’ll take it from there…?

Can’t promise we’ll have your recording done before the weekend but we’ll do our damndest, damn it.

Yeeee-haw! Thanks Mate, thanks indeed. PM is on the way.

I’ll edit the Thread as SOLVED right away and I hope something can be done as well to solve the issue that emerged with it…!

I’m glad to read that. I would have felt the same if I was in your shoes and I would’ve very much appreciated some relief. May I add that I wouldn’t claim to “know” you in the true sense of the word but judging from what I’ve seen and heard from you so far I’d say you’re a fairly decent Lad?
Thank you very much Ladies and Gentlemen, drive safely.
