Simple How To Update - On Ubuntu Please

Ok all,
Real simple question…

I currently run version 6.9 on Ubuntu.
I have now downloaded version 7.2

Yes I can just run the installer but I have some questions on installation before I do it and cant seem to find simple answers. I currently have a few projects on the go but I have a gap in schedule on thursday that I can use to update, so I’m trying to prep for that as well.

Questions are.

  1. Will my current version 6.9 be removed automatically.
If not, whats the simplest way to remove it first, and how mush of it do I remove ?
(See question 3 for why specifically)

  2. Do I run the installer as Sudo ?

  3. Will I need to reset all locations of vst’s etc or will 7.2 pick up whats left, if anything, of 6,9

Thanks in advance.

No. The installer asks if you want to remove it, but you can have both versions installed in parallel.

Also no. The installer later calls sudo as needed.

Ardour 7 asks to copy preferences from version 6, but yes, you have to re-scan plugins after that.

Ace, thanks.

I stumbled up on this page that helped.
