I guess great minds think alike 
I experienced this too. It occurred when ALSA hit some problem and just stopped. After I started it everything was visible but not audible. I found that all the tracks had removed themselves from the Master Output. I clicked them all back in and all is well except one track just dropped off what was recorded although it still was present.
