Sidebar - Regions - Should they be shown in timeline when clicked on

In the Editor - Sidebar - Tracks section, when you click on any tracks in list, the timeline automatically navigates to those tracks in the Editor, making them visible to the user.

In the Editor - Sidebar - Regions section, it does not automatically navigate to show user selected region in the timeline.
Have not really thought about it completely, but I was wondering, should it?
Would there be a reason not to auto-navigate to show the region selected?

You can see the selected region in the “Summary” scroll bar if you have it enabled, which is nice, but seems like it might also be beneficial if would show in timeline as well.

To me single click on regions in list would be the best/most convenient approach and would make consistent with how the Sidebar - Tracks section currently functions.
If not, then maybe at least a double click on list items to achieve this action?

Let me know if I should create a Mantis post about this.

Thank you to anyone who reads this

What if the region is in more than one playlist, and so shows up in multiple positions in the timeline?

@sound8: I believe that selecting a region in the list will select it on the timeline; we just don’t scroll to show it. I think it’s a good idea in principle.

In practice … it’s pretty easy to scroll&zoom horizontally but not quite so easy to scroll the tracks … tracks can be ‘tall’ and there can be automation lanes between them.

Perhaps if we only do this when a single region is selected, it could work.

@ccaudle:

I believe the intent of the RegionList is to represent actual regions on visible playlists, and there’s no possibility of a RegionList entry showing up on 2 different playlists (although the special case of a “shared” playlist raises questions)

Or shows up on a non-visible playlist? Not saying it is a bad idea, just curious what people’s responses would be here.
