Show note names in the individual midi notes

hi all, Rookie here. Using latest Ardour from git. I could not find it in the manual, discussions, elsewhere so here it goes:

I would love to - optionally - see the note name to be shown on the individual note in midi editor/piano-roll. I mean the “F3” that is part of the mouse-hover overlay to be written directly in the midi block thingy, where the velocity bar is drawn.

This would help me learning notes, scales, chords, all that stuff. Having an easy overview of what is in the track

Idea stolen from some random DAW featured in some random video

Yes, the names are on the left but you referencing this row header becomes harder the longer the track.

Regards,
Jens

We currently regard displaying the note velocity (the thin black bar in the middle) as more importand than the note name. Displaying both in most cases seems like it would lead to a mess, both visually and in terms of workflow.

I actually completely agree. Especially when writing larger arrangements, being able to have that option would really help when thinking about orchestration and chords vs velocity.

Could it not be an option? Especially since we have the lollipop lane option for velocity.

(Lollipop lane is my favorite place to hang out)
