Should Preferences be moved from Edit to Window

(I know it is probably too late to make any changes but just curious)
Ardour has a category in its Menu Bar called Window where all the different Ardour floating windows can be opened from.
Yet, Preferences is under the Edit drop down.

I am aware that some applications do the same where Preferences/Settings are in the Edit drop down, but often they do not use the Window drop down in the way that Ardour does.

Granted I can understand that it makes Preferences easy to find/access because it is at the bottom of the Edit drop down, especially for any users who do not assign a shortcut to Preferences window.

But other then that, why would Preferences not be in the Window drop down with all the other floating window items?

Lua Scripts flyout is also at the bottom of the Edit window.
This one I guess falls a little in between, but in its default state all three items open up windows as well, such as the Script Manager.
So also wonder if this would be in the Window drop down as well.

Again developers/users probably are not going to change this, but was just curious because of how Ardour uses the Window drop down.

Thank You

My 2 cents: preferences menu item is very often found under Edit in a great variety of application, it’s almost a de-facto standard.

Preferences is in the “Windows” category as well as in the “Edit” category.
To make things even weirder, I always use Edit / Preferences when I want to change hardware controller settings, but for any other settings I use Windows / Preferences. I don’t know why.

<install-path>/etc/ardour.menus

Edit it as you wish.

Yup, it’s basicaly the standard.
Almost all pro audio/video applications use this way.

On the other hand…
If you ask me, i’d put anything a user can change (layout, themes, keyboard shortcuts, default/prefered file locations etc…) in a separate menu and simply call it “settings” or “user settings” an get it over with…
But hey, different opinions of prefered choices have to stop somewhere.

A reminder that on macOS, the “standard” is to have under the application’s name submenu …
