Setting up Jack with Ardour with Eeebuntu Linux on Asus Eee Pc 900

Hi.

I am a brand new Linux user. I have an Asus Eee Pc 900 on which I have installed Eeebuntu, the Netbook version of Ubuntu 8.01 (I think). I have installed Ubuntu Studio as well.

My sound card is a RealTek HD.

Here is my question. Iḿ trying to figure out Jack audio, Ardour, and Linux at the same time. I installed Ubuntu Studio to try to activate real time capabilities, but every time I click on the real time button in Jack it deactivates.

Is there any documentation for the Asus Eee Pc 900 for absolute n00bs who want to know how to set up Jack and Ardour properly on this system. I want to use the Eee 900 for small on the fly recording of guitar and voice. But as of yet cannot get Jack set up right.

Thank you.

Yes, I have just done all of this. I did not have an audio group set up. Once I did this Real-time capabilities were started, and I am having no trouble with that now.

Thanks for the tips.

Now I just can hear playback from sound check I did. But that is a whole different problem.

or compile your own

If you’re using Ubunut 8.10, forget realtime. There seems to be no working rt-patch for the kernel. Downgrade to Ubuntu 8.04.1

Or upgrade to 9.04… I think it will hit stable in three days

So you have done the
sudo su -c ‘echo @audio - rtprio 99 >> /etc/security/limits.conf’
sudo su -c ‘echo @audio - memlock 250000 >> /etc/security/limits.conf’
sudo su -c ‘echo @audio - nice -10 >> /etc/security/limits.conf’
right?
Have you added your user to the audio group and logged out and in again?

Thank you.

That did not help at all.

On the FAQ the support that was given is as follows

I cannot start JACK in realtime mode!

Sad. Quaint, even.

What a great solution. I ask a question and I get a cocky wiseass.

Here is the error Iḿ getting
