Every time I create a new project, the default sample rate is set to 48kHz, but I prefer using 44.1kHz as my standard sample rate because it is more common in other software, and I want better compatibility when working across different applications.
I was wondering if anyone knows a method or setting that allows me to automatically select 44.1kHz as the default sample rate when creating a new project. If this requires modifying certain configuration files or any other way to achieve it, I am very willing to try.
My operating system: macOS
My Ardour version: 8.10.0/macOS/arm64, download from ardour.org
I believe it’s based on the Audio device you select. If the audio device is capable of 44.1kHz then it should present this as an option.
If not, then the audio interface cannot sample at 44.1kHz, and 48kHz is the right choice. It doesn’t make much sense for Ardour to do real-time rate conversion for the sake of convenience.
If you really need 44.1kHz, you can specify this when you export, which you will need to do in order to exchange files with other applications. If you do this frequently, you can create your own export format:
I interpreted the original question as how to make that the default, to skip the step of pulling down the selection control and selecting the desired rate each time.
If that’s the case @joai3269 you can start a blank project with the Sample rate set to 44.1kHz and any other basic settings you want (for instance, if you want some predefined channels) and save that as a session template.
Then every time you create a project, select that template to use.
