Is there a ripple edit mode in Ardour? I’m not sure if that’s the right name for the feature, that’s what it is called in Sony Vegas. Ripple edit is a mode where any changes that affect duration will affect audio later in the track, or on multiple tracks. For example, if I cut out 3 seconds, all the later audio will move back by 3 seconds.
For obvious reasons, this isn’t popular for music editing, but I work in radio, and I’m hoping that Ardour will be a good solution at some point.
Thanks for the quick response, I’ll try that out. I think it would be a great feature to develop - it’s a pretty small thing, but it makes a huge difference in editing talk.
Not precisely. You can try try “Shuffle” edit mode (edit mode selector in the upper left “area” of the editor) but its an experiment that is unfinished. It might be useful to you.
I meant it may seem like a insignificant feature to a user that doesn’t require it, but it makes a big difference in this kind of editing. I can imagine how annoying and difficult this must be from the developer’s point of view.
I was surprised to hear this come up on the Open Source Musician Podcast interview right after I asked the question (which is why I’m taking another look at this thread) . . . thanks for the recent interviews by the way, it’s great to hear your perspective on the state of audio in Linux.
