Hi, i’m interested what others think about the ability to record overdub in the cue clips?
for me this is very crucial feature (without this recording one-takes into cue clip remove all the fun i end up doing by building up on top of existing stuff)
also question for devs - if this is something considered?
I will likely implement it for MIDI at some point.
Clip/cue recording is not a replacement for a full-featured live-looper, such as (in software) SooperLooper or Moebius or in hardware any of the lovely live loopers out there from Boss, Roland and many others.
can you exactly specify what are the goals in that case?
sorry but I was talking purely from my standpoint - because i do use it in the mentioned way in both Live and Bitwig - and have no any trouble with the mentioned worklofw.
I don’t consider it at an early stage at all. The goals for cue/clip launching are entirely different from live looping. You will notice that a large number of Live & Bitwig users (two DAWs where this stuff is the most advanced) do not attempt to use these features to do live looping in the way that you’re desiring. I’ve seen plenty of them do live looping in Live & Bitwig, but rarely using this particular feature.
Elise Trouw possibly comes the closest in terms of “live looping with clip launching”, but AFAICT, she does not overdub.
I believe Elise doesn’t use the clip/cues equivalent in Ableton. As I understand it she uses a proper looper plugin, on multiple tracks, which are cued to start recording and playing based on MIDI events wired in from a MIDI track.
