Record cardinal sequencer created midi notes

My problem is: i wantend the JW sequencer in a Cardinal miditrack to create random notes and record them, so i can later use them, say for something like an automated solo.

After i didn’t find any tutorial how to get there online, after quite some hours i came up with a solution, which results in what i want, but i am not sure if it is a proper solution. Thats why i ask here.
What i did:
a) in cardinal i used Disthro modules “Host Audio” (so i can hear what cardinal produces) “Host Time” (so it is in time sync) and to capture the created midinotes “Host Midi”.
V/Oct from the JW Sequencer goes into Host Midi V/Oct input port, envelope module output goes into Host Mid gate input port.
b) in ardour i created a second track and set the routing grid from the cardinal-midtrack output to the input of the miditrack itself.
The pictures hopefully make it clear.

My question is: Is that a possible way to do it? Or just plain wrong? Perhaps there is even a more easy way, say record them in the very same track.
Thanks in advance.

That’s certainly what i’ve done in the past.

It is possible to record the output of Cardinal in the same track, but it has few benefits and several complications over this approach.

Ah, thats very good news. As said, for the life of me i could find anything which explains how to do it, i perhaps used the wrong terms to describe what i want. It took me really long to figure it out (never really used cardinal in ardour, so that is really my problem).
Thanks.
