Re-recorded guitars on my hard rock / metal track "Snakeskin"

For any hard rockin metalheads out there

Nice basis, at 0:29 there’s evidence of a systemd intrusion attempt nicely /corrected/ and after that all is quiet and purring

you actually almost had me check if there was an audible xrun there :rofl: then i remembered the other thread :woozy_face::laughing:

i just don’t like “microsoft-inspired” stuff like systemd that are an over-complicated attempt to control everything at once and force “my way or no way” on the user.

but as Paul said, this isn’t the place to discuss this. For audio i need a system that is 100% deterministic and has zero “background voodoo” going on.

hahah at 0:29ish is when i put those shotgun/monster sound :rofl:

for reference those sounds are from the playstation (1996) and n64 (1997) versions of Doom (1993) …earlier versions had a really cheezy pop sounding gun sound and the wilhem scream

yeah i know copyright infringment blah blah blah, but this wasn’t meant as a commercial track. :love_you_gesture::smiley::+1:

btw i just noticed this was almost 2 years ago that i added this to rkrp!!! :anguished::open_mouth: (HEAVILY used in this track, see links at the bottom added just yesterday)

Reminds me of “Chaos A.D.” somehow.
Call Max and get the band rollin’

Mix seems to have a “blanket” problem.
Everything is pushed way too heavily to the lower side of the frequency spectrum,
at least, that is what it sound like to me at the first glance.
Don’t get me wrong, i dig the dark atmosphere, it would be great to keep it,
just techincaly, the whole mix needs to be more brought to life.
So, this is the stage where you take artisticly similar songs you like, and A/B reference your track to it, trying to match it at close as it’s possible. Don’t be affraid you’ll loose authenticity, cause it’s very hard to match two different songs recorded with different gear to that level.

Another thing to keep in mind is, that it’s pointles to mix the whole track without vocals if you plan to add the vocals later. With vocals thrown in, it changes all over again.

This is class, nice one delt :+1: Absolutely love the chuggy riffy mid-tempo core and I think, with the right vocals, if / when the vocals are added, it’s gonna pure boot :metal: Excellent stuff, keep it coming.

Thanks for taking the time to listen guys! :love_you_gesture::smiley::+1:

…and thanks also for the helpful advice. What speakers/monitors are you listening on? Here i’m using (canadian made) Tannoy pbm-6.5 monitors. I think i might have put the bass a bit too loud, and the drum overheads could use a bit more “sparkle” indeed. Can you elaborate more, which instruments especially sound too low-end heavy?

I replaced the bass drum for one that’s a lot better for metal (the “Muldjord” one from DrumGizmo) sounds fuller and has more “clickyness” to it

I was listening to it only on Bayerdynamics DT-770 Pro headphones.
I’ll try it out on my Kali LP-6’s, when i get to my personal space where i mostly mix,
and i’ll get back to you, but i’m already pretty positive that it’s the way i described it,
simply cause everything else i listened to after it for comparison is not that way.
