Questions about Audio Unit plugins

Hello,

I noticed this text “AUv2” (-top left-) while Ardour 6.9.0 was scanning for new plugins:

Questions:

  1. So I guess there is a distinct Audio Unit Version 1 (AUv1) then?
  2. Can newer Ardours (6 or later) work with ‘AUv1’ plugins anymore?
  3. How can you tell if an AU plugin is AUv1, or AUv2, etc.?

There is version 3 which Ardour do not directly support, but Apple automatically bridges v3 plugins and exposes them as v2 Audio Units.

As far as I know Version 1 was never a public API, I believe it was only used internally from 2001 to 2002.
