Purpose of how region fade ins and outs appear visually

Regions have grip nodes at the top left and right corners of them.
These adjust the fade in and fade outs of that region.
When applied, sometimes they can appear to show a very busy graphical representation of the fade.
Meaning you see two crossed lines and various color shadings.
I was wondering if this graphical representation of fade serves a purpose that I am unaware of?
Maybe this makes them easier to see if zoomed out of region?

If not, then I was wondering if it would look clearer to just show line for the shape of the fades curve. Then only the negative space beyond the curve (the space in the upper left corner for fade ins / upper right corner for fade outs) would get a lighter color.
Then when mouse hovers over the region would still show the grip nodes and the vertical line/rectangle around the curve shape.

Could be offered as a setting in Preferences - Appearance section, allowing for an optional “style” for fade in/out appearance?

Was not sure if worth putting in a suggestion for something like this?

Thank you to anyone who reads this

It indicates how regions below the current one are faded out: all fades are cross-fades.

Any fade-in is also a fade-out of lower regions, and vice-versa (and all the way down).
