Plugins in Ardour "how to"?

Hello,
I am a hobby ebass player and starting to work with Ardour and to use plugins, therefore following my very basic question:

  • where can I find a very basic explanation of how to use the plugins in Ardour: where to find them, how to install them, etc. etc.
    Btw.: I am not interested (for the time being) in MIDI plugins, but in effects for the recorded bass sound (hall, chorus, compressor, etc.).

Thanks in advance for your hints!
