Not news and does not affect development of Ardour in the slightest because if an application supports JACK or ALSA on the backend, pipewire will work.
Having played around with PW a bit in an earlier development release, my impressions were
- great if you use fedora
- less awesome on Arch based distorts because arch users had to build drop-in packages to get it to work and the control of the PW server was kinda janky.
I’m holding out until it just replaces the default sound system in Manjaro.
Hopefully. Unless it doesn’t then users will come asking for help.
Well, I can say because I’ve used it, Ardour worked fine in a previous, less stable version. Buffer size changing for the JACK buffer was kinda fubar’d but that’s on the Pipewire side - Ardour devs may have to field questions about it, but they can field the question and punt it to the Pipewire team.
