I know, old story. I’ve read a few years of threads. Just want to point to today’s failure. PayPal will not allow entering country codes for the “required” phone. My postal/bank/ccard address is in a different country than my phone.
I’m coming from years of MixBus and am excited to dive into Ardour. Demo is making me happy and a breath of fresh air compared to MB these days. But, not allowed to PAY so not allowed to PLAY I guess.
I do understand the passion to stay with PayPal, but want to remind those making the decisions that PayPal will prevent me from joining this wonderful community.
What OS are you using ? Somebody may provide a temporary link to download.
If you are on Linux, building this from source code is an option. Debian and Arch seem to build well for me. Setup of the build system can be a little bit of a pain, but only needs to be done once. Then you can build when you need to, but there is generally no support for home builds if something doesn’t work as expected. I have not had issues when building with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
I will be using both flavours of Mac whenever I can work something out. Thanks for the suggestion. I may ask someone for some download help along these lines but will stick with the Demo for now. I won’t adopt something for production purposes without official links etc.
I bailed on MixBus now that they want to deliver disposable licenses in exchange for cash. I expected Ardour to be a little more willing to take my money. PayPal is horrible, I was willing to jump through that hoop but expected things to at least work. Would be great for Ardour to question getting into bed with those guys. I understand the rationale for micropayments and low fees, but it is important that those higher ups understand that PayPal is actually a problem and that the decision also has a downside.
We fully understand that our reliance on PayPal has “a downside” (it actually has multiple downsides).
But life is always about weighing pros and cons (since few, if any, things are wholly good or wholly bad). And in the case of adding new payment processors, for now it appears to us that the people who pay us to work on Ardour get less if we spend time adding them than if we simply accept the downsides.
