Pan law...

OK, so here is my latest issue…

I have a mono file (vocal only), that I need to put a few stereo plugins on. So, I create a stereo track and pan it dead center.

I then throw on a maximizer plugin, set it to max out of -.1 Db.

If it is set to Center on the Pan, I peak at about -2.9 Db…if I pan to left/right, it works as expected, and peaks at -.1 Db…

I’m guessing this has to do with the way Ardour handles the pan law, but can’t find a setting to change. Of course I can just up the gain by 2.8 Db, but I’m wondering if there is a setting I’m missing, or if there is another way to get a stereo effect on a mono track…

add a mono-to-stereo converter before the stereo plugins you want to use. its a part of the CMT plugin package, i think. if not that, then the SWH plugins.

btw, ardour’s pan law is equal power, not equal volume.
