TAL-Drum (VST3) communicates note names to REAPER and Cubase but I haven’t managed to display them in Ardour (9.2 macOS Tahoe). Is it expected (i.e. does Ardour use the same information as the other two to obtain note names or is it something else entirely) ?
I have not used TAL Drum.
Can you assign names to each of the pads individually and these names are communicated to Reaper?
Does it update the names when you change a name in TAL Drum?
I know that reaper can use a side file - so maybe a file
is created under the hood?
Ardour also has a side file mechanism.
These files can be created with a text or XML editor,
Examples are in /opt/Ardour-<version>/share/patchfiles or wherever this might be on a Mac (I’m on Linux)
I have created midnam files for all of my Ugritone drum kits
Yes you can name pads however you like and assign them a midi note and said midi note will have the chosen name displayed in Reaper’s piano roll. Loading another kit with a different mapping and/or names makes the appropriate changes in Reaper automatically.
