I recently changed to Ubuntu Studio, and the translator (into Spanish) doesn’t seem to work. It allows to mark the check box, but nothing happens at restart. It stays in English. Any ideas?
Is the system’s language Spanish?
To show the current setting; in a terminal window please run
locale
–
You can also you try to run Ardour in that terminal forcing the language to Spanish in Spain:
LANG=es_ES.UTF-8 Ardour8
… or if you got Ardour from Ubuntu (not ardour.org), lower case a:
LANG=es_ES.UTF-8 ardour8

Everything seems to be in Spanish except “PAPER”. The first line however, indicates that the system can’t find the file or directory for LC_ALL. Could this be the problem?
Running Ardour with the command you suggest does start the application, but still in English.

Are you sure Ubuntu Studio has installed the translation files for its version of Ardour?
Check if you have a /usr/share/ardour8/locale/es/LC_MESSAGES directory with a bunch of .mo files in it.
If not, you should to run sudo apt install ardour-data to install them.
