No path from MIDI interface to Ardour

I have an Emagic AMT8. It works and I can use it in Rosegarden (and in just about any other Linux MIDI program) to record and play back MIDI from/to my hardware synths. The AMT8 shows up under the ALSA tab. Ardour shows up under the MIDI tab. a2jmidid does not create any connections between my AMT8 and Ardour.

How do I record MIDI in Ardour with my setup?

what chrisg says… I have used one for years and it works well… I use ladish as my session manager and it fires up a2jmidid -e (I had to set it up , on my system the inbuilt doesn’t work)…
