Here is a live album of my old band that I recorded years ago in another DAW (Cubase) but then never did anything with. Recently, I took the raw stems and put them in Ardour to work on from scratch.
I only had 8 tracks to record to at the time so there were a few compromises that had consequences for mixing later. I was able to use a stem separation tool (not in Ardour though) to clean up some of the composite tracks and balance things much better than I ever could before. There was a lot of drum bleed in vocals and some of the instruments with acoustic pickups standing nearby and I couldn’t get it sounding good, which is why I gave up on it at the time (2012).
I think it has come out quite well in the end, mildly drunken performance notwithstanding The band, and the audience, were a few drinks on the way to a New Years Eve celebration by the time we started so its a bit rough and ready in places
This is the shit! Great. Magnificient. There’s so much to it I don’t know where to begin. A certain Pogues vibe was mentioned before, I agree, but the term “derivative” is lightyears away from crossing my mind. You got your own blend. Great singing voice and stage presence (“Aw there’s me voice gone”, love it!) and a tight ensemble. Resourceful songwriting. Dear me, I love it. And this particular Mix is top notch, given what you had at hand.
You’re not by any chance acquainted with another London act known as “The Amber Bugs”? If not, check them out, they’re on bandcamp, too.
Hey thanks very much for the nice comments!! So glad you’re enjoying it
Sadly, we’ve been defunct as a band for nearly 10 years now, people are spread all over the UK - Cornwall, Yorkshire, Norfolk… only me left in London these days.
I’ve not heard of “The Amber Bugs” but I’ll check them out for sure
Cheers!
Aw, I’m very sorry to hear that, you were such a tight ensemble. If you’re still in touch with your former bandmates, tell 'em about their posthumous admirer!
