I just tried playing my liveset and got a hissing xrun. Right now i have very low latency settings with 512 frames per period and 1 period configured in JACK. I guess i should increase one of both. But i do not understand what consequences either choice will bring. If i have two periods it will give me the same latency as when i double the buffersize. There has to be a reason for these options so what would be the prefered setting?
You cannot use one period, either two (like most other OS) or 3:

only on paper. systemic latency (buffering on the kernel side, bus and device) differs. For USB aim for a period size that is a multiple of 1ms.
Oh i see. I used the (default) option and asumed it was 1 as it has half the latency of 2
This is very interesting. I wprk at 48KHz
When I tried using buffer sizes that gave integer ms latencies, e.g. 480, I got more clicks than just sticking with factors of 2. I get no problems at 1024
Having said all this I use ALSA not Jack
